LOUISVILLE, Neb. (AP) _ Sarpy County authorities were cautioning residents in an area known as Vencil's Island to about the rising threat of the Platte River. The sheriff's department attributed Wednesday's flooding to ice jams. A foot and a half of water was reported over one roadway. Emergency management officials say the immediate danger had passed by evening. Residents were cautioned about the threat of flooding, but no evacuations were ordered. Fears of flood-causing ice jams along the lower Platte were included in the National Weather Service's latest flood outlook. Pilots hired by the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency spread 77 tons of coal ash over the Platte last month. The coal ash was intended to thaw ice slowly to prevent flooding caused by ice jams.
