Whippets look to end state tourney drought
Published Tuesday, March 09, 2010 at 07:15 AM
For a third straight year the Minden boys basketball squad is headed back to the Class C-1 state basketball tournament. The Whippets earned a wildcard berth to this week's event after going 18-4 following its loss to Chadron in the district final. Coach Shannon Lovin likes how things came together this season for his team. Minden was the regular season and Southwest conference tournament champions. All four of Minden's losses came to teams that qualified for state. This is the 29th time Minden has qualified for state, but the Whippets haven't won a game in Lincoln since the mid 1970's. Lovin says he has spoken to the team about that and they hope that streaks ends on Thursday. Minden is seeded 6th and will play 3rd seeded Falls City who is 23-2 on the year at Pershing Thursday morning at 10:45am
