Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney track team was split up this weekend as some Lopers competed in the Chadron State Eagle Open Thursday and Friday with the rest of the team in Lincoln on Friday and Saturday for the Frank Sevgine Invitational.

At UNL, facing mainly top Division I competition, UNK recorded a slew of personal best times on the track and had several noteworthy performances.

In the women’s 3,000 meters, Minatare sophomore Amy Long placed seventh in a field of 18 runners with a time of 10:16.55. That breaks the school record of 10:19.12, set by Steph Homan in 1993. Long beat seven Division I runners en route to the record; Lara Crofford (unattached) won the event in 10:02.04.

Improving their standing on the national lists were senior throwers Rich Mourer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Sam Murphy (Franklin). Mourer placed 10th in the men’s weight throw with a toss of 60-10.50. Also placing 10th was Murphy, who threw the shot put an even 48-0. In the men's shot, Waco senior Dane Tobey finished fourth with a Division I provisional throw of 58-10.

Also at Nebraska, Syracuse junior Thomas Neeman was third at 3,000 meters (8:40.27; 2nd fastest time in school history), Dickens sophomore Brooke Harris was third in the mile (5:01.59; 3rd fastest time in school history) and Grand Island sophomore Brandon Wissing was third in the men’s mile (4:18.61).

Finally, each Loper 4 x 400 relay team placed sixth, the women running at 3:58.30 and the men clocking in at 3:22.81.

At Chadron, Holdrege sophomore Jena Isaacson capped a great weekend by setting a new meet record in long jump (17-11) on Friday. A day earlier, she provisionally qualified in the pentathlon (3,312 points).

Among other UNK women, Grand Island freshman Ariel Krolikowski was runner up to Isaacson in the long jump (17-4), Pleasanton freshman Kristi Bauer won the high jump (5-5) and triple jump (35-2.50) and Sidney junior Jessie Golden was runner up in the 55 hurdles (8.35).

That was a season-best time for Golden and one that will help her slightly on the national 60 hurdles list (after conversion).

On the men’s side on Friday, York senior Spencer Huff was first in the long jump (23-4.50) and second at 55 meters (6.62) with Gothenburg freshman Cameron Bullock runner up in the pole vault (13-5.25).

The Lopers hosts the annual UNK All-Comer next Friday afternoon in Cushing Coliseum. Attached is a head shot of Long.
