The popular History Channel will look at the bean industry. The documentary television series Modern Marvels looks at how technologies affect and are used in today's society. Over a year ago, the show producers contacted Jeane Wharton, Executive Director for the United States Dry Bean Council.
On March 11, 2009 the History Channel's Modern Marvels TV show will premiere a episode on "Beans" at 7pm Central, 6pm Mountain Time. In January 2009 the Modern Marvels visited western Nebraska's Kelley Bean Company. Bob Kelley, President of Kelley Bean says the filming crew toured their their processing plant in Mitchell and their packaging plant in Morrill.
Modern Marvels will also show canning at B&M Baked Beans in Maine, as well as the versatility of soybeans from converting soybeans into vegetable oils, flour and soy bean meal.
The show will also look at the nutritional value of beans and the use of beans in international food dishes.
Since 1995, Modern Marvels has aired over 500 episodes.
