Published Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM
There is no admission charge to the workshop, which features nationally recognized no-till experts and includes a free lunch prepared by the Ord FFA. Speakers include Ray Ward of Ward Laboratories in Kearney with a presentation called “Carbon as a Nutrient.” Paul Jasa of the University of Nebraska will talk about “Uniformity and How You Get It” and Mark Watson will present “No-Till and Water Savings.” Brian Berns will have a presentation on “Cover Crops and Forage Cocktails,” and there will be a panel discussion featuring all of the day’s presenters.
The workshop will also feature a presentation utilizing a rainfall simulator. Kathy Buttle from NRCS in Scottsbluff will demonstrate the increased water holding capacity of soils under no-till farming and the reduction in erosion using the system. The simulator will be demonstrated on the Valley County Courthouse square (weather permitting) otherwise inside the Vets Club. Lunch will include music presented by the Baker Family of Ord.
