In responding to the disaster in Haiti, Lexington First United Methodist Church is collecting health kits. For those who don't know how to help those in Haiti, this offers a way to make a tangible difference. The kits, valued at about $12 per kit, contain everything from towels and washcloths to sterile bandages and bar soap. Spokesperson Terry Unterseher says the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is heading the campaign. The kits need to be delivered to the First United Methodist Church, 201 E 8th, on Feb. 8 by noon. The kits will be distributed to Haitians who have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the recent disaster. Call Terry Unterseher at 324-5626 for more information.

UMCOR requests that the following NEW items be placed in a sealed one-gallon plastic bag: one hand towel (15” x 25” up to 17” x 27”) No kitchen towels; one washcloth; one comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized); one nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers); one bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up); one toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes); six adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages; $1.00 to purchase toothpaste.
